Research

We started our research studying the project of Kirkenes Hotel. We redrew the structure to understand the space, and to have a clear perception in three dimensions of the ambient.

The second step was the analysis of the activityes that can take place inside the hotel, from a proxemics point of view.
Then we analyzed the activityes in relation to the flux of people, in differents times of the day, and contextualizing them into the ambient.

Kirkenes Hotel_Sami Rintala

The space that we chose as reference, that will inspire and guide our project is Sami rintala's Kirkenes Hotel.
This building is situated in the north of Norway, in the town of Kirkenes,
a small centre on the Barents sea carachterized by the interconnection of different cultures: Saami, Russian, Norwegian, Finsk.
The Finnish architect was invited to create an artwork in the centre of Kirkenes.
It was built of timber on an aerated concrete block foundation. The interior was painted white for natural light and sense of space while the outside is painted black to absorb sunlight and to integrate it into the surrounding dark rocky shore.
